11/12/2014 - Surprises in ICT Market Development - New EITO Study Finds

Total ICT Market Value 2014

High demand has stopped the downward trend in the Western European PC market. That is one of the conclusions reached by the new EITO report ICT Market Report 2014/15 Update, which analyzes the key developments and trends in the industry in detail.

High demand for PCs; market for tablets sluggish
Overall economic development in Europe has experienced some additional negatives, so that the forecast for GDP growth was recently reduced. What effects will this have on the European IT market? The latest forecast by the European IT Observatory (EITO) is slightly below this spring’s expectations for the overall market: according to the Report, an increase in sales volume by 0.4% to €641 billion is expected for 2014. The outlook for 2015 is equally modest with an expected increase of 0.5% to €644 billion. The greatest positive surprise in 2014 is sales of PCs, which is expected to grow by almost 7%, to more than €28 billion in 2014. At the same time, sales of smartphones and tablets are considerably weaker than had been expected in spring.

The growth trend in China
Comparing international markets, the Chinese market is growing fastest (+14.7%); according to this spring’s forecast, Brazil was still in first place. The USA still accounts for the lion’s share (27.8%) of worldwide sales volume in ICT goods and services, which will amount to a total of €2.8 trillion this year. With the growth rate of 4%, this worldwide market is growing more rapidly than the overall economy.
