Ms. Viviane Reding, EU Commissioner for Information Society and Media, named the EITO "a principal source of statistics on the ICT sector" and pointed out, that "the high quality information it provides is essential to track the latest changes in our dynamic sector".

Software and IT services are now the clear drivers of growth in Europe, but especially mobile data services will become more and more important in the close future. Commissioner Reding sees regulatory need for action in this area and preparing papers. Also she sees investment in IT research and next generation access networks as the key to Europe's global position. But "Europeans can meet with confidence if we remain open to competition, promotion and supporters of innovation."
